What You Need

To take advantage of all of the features and functions of RecordJacket.com™, you will need:

  1. A computer running Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system and Microsoft® Internet Explorer (version 5.5 or higher)

You do not need an expensive computer with a lot of disk space or memory to run RecordJacket.com™—any desktop or laptop computer should work just fine. No software is loaded on your computer. Instead, all software is used directly from the Web and all records are uploaded and stored on the Web.

  2. A reliable high-speed (broadband) Internet connection

You may need to check with your IT administrator about any firewall security issues that block the use of Web-based programs or the transfer of files outside your organization.

  3. A digital scanner meeting TWAIN 2 specifications

For workflow reasons, we recommend that you utilize a small high-speed desktop scanner equipped with an automatic page feeder. At RecordJacket.com™, we typically use the Fujitsu line of small, desktop scanners in our offices and have found them to be very reliable, durable and problem-free. Other brands have similar reputations.

Generally, the inexpensive all-in-one copier/fax/printer/scanner devices are not compatible and too slow for large volume scanning. If you have a large older high-volume scanner, it might not be TWAIN 2 compatible. However, you can still use these older scanners by scanning the paper records and creating a PDF file that you then transfer to RecordJacket.com™ at the appropriate step in the process. Once you have signed up, you can test your scanner’s compatibility in the initial setup process.

  4. The ability to create PDF files

For security reasons (so that files cannot be changed or altered) RecordJacket.com™ Release Manager only accepts electronic records in either PDF or TIFF image form. Most EMR systems allow you to create PDF files of records. If your EMR does not or if you want to include Word, Excel, Email files or other electronic types of records into a release, you will need to first create a PDF version of those files. Most scanners and printers now come with software to create PDF files or you can purchase a PDF program such as Adobe® Acrobat® to easily create PDF files. RecordJacket.com™ Archive Manager will accept any kind of electronic document without conversion to a PDF or TIFF format.
